'A Sliver of Light' Framed Original
Digital Collage on Hahnemühle Torchon Fine Art Paper with 21 Karat Gold Leaf
Art size: 30 × 30cm (excluding frame)
Digital collage created with photographs of ordinary urban objects (like lampposts and rubbish bins) then hand embellished
About the art: Increasingly engulfed by the darkness that I believed I was, one day, walking towards the river, something struck me. It occurred to me that I was not seeing the whole picture and looking for the answers in all the wrong places. I was looking for doctors to ‘fix’ my emotional pain, for others to love, validate, approve of and fulfill me, for things, achievements and substances to satiate or numb me, when in that moment I felt a fleeting sense of a deep knowing that all I had to do was look within, and that I was never alone, or empty, or worthless. This tiny sliver in time, in 2018, proved a pivotal one, as it momentarily allowed some light back in to where darkness had taken over, temporarily opening my eyes to the possibility of a new perspective; of hope.
“By denying the darkness, we are denying half of ourselves. The place where light and dark begin to touch is the most profound experience we can have in life.”
– Carl Jung
